This beautiful and peaceful cemetery was built at the beginning of the 20th Century and covers 160 acres in Roseville, Minnesota.
The Roseville police department would routinely get calls that there was someone locked inside of one of the mausoleums. After awhile they named the ghost "Smiling Jack" because at the back of the mausoleums is a smiling, stain glass image of the man, Jack, who is buried there. While the area of the tomb is reported to be haunted, in the early years of the 21st century new police recruits were taken to the cemetery for their Graveyard Watch. At some time during the night, seasoned officers would hide behind the mausoleum and pass a beam from a flashlight through the stain glass window image slowly to scare the newbie. Neither the Roseville Police Department, nor MNPIG encourage hazing.

Taken by: Gina a former MNPI member Gina and John returned to Roselawn for a follow-up and again felt like they were being followed around. The photo's graininess happened when the film was developed and/or due to the scanner's capability of the time. |

Taken by: Lori Bogren Taking a nighttime photo from the entrance of the "Smiling Jack" toward entrance to the cemetery showed two bright lights: the security light (pictured #3) and the Moon (not pictured). Enhancing the brightness of the photo (cropped detail appears left) revealed much more. Bugs indicated by #2 and Orbs #1, #4 (partially covering tombstone), #5-7. These orbs help to demonstrate that these are dust or moisture particles. #4 is positioned almost center of the original photograph and is a complete circle. #7 would have been below the flash and the bottom portion begins to disappear. It should also be noted that the larger the orb, the closer to the flash.

Taken by: Lori Bogren It's been about 14 years since the first photos of Roselawn appeared on the MNPI site. As a member who had not been out there before I wanted to check the statements made. A small group returned and determined that the appearance of anyone trapped in this mausoleum would've been caused by moving shadows created by flashlights or headlights shining through the scroll work grating off the front doors. Or possibly light shining from the back illuminating the stained glass face at the rear of the mausoleum. The photo right was taken at dusk during the investigation and proves interesting if apparently an optical effect of the setting sun. |

Taken by: John Savage of MNPI This photo was taken a few moments after the previous photo (below). John had turned away from the mausoleum, when he felt the need to turn back. They had been hoping to get a picture of "Smiling Jack." There was no fog and it was not snowing that night. |

Taken by: John Savage of MNPI At this spot a ghost named "Smiling Jack" has been seen standing near his grave site. When this photo was taken there was nothing in this photo. The flashes on either side are reflections on the structure and the streak across the middle is due to removal of the physical photo from an album. The photo on the right side was taken during the day Summer 2009. |

Taken by: Lori Bogren of MNPI This was the second of the three photos taken within the same minute. The third (no shown) had the same results. No orbs. Note: This image was brightened in the same way and to the same level as it's predecessor. |

Taken by: Lori Bogren of MNPI Having access to several memory cards I was taking very frequent photos (222 during the course of the evening). As we walked around the cemetery we were discussing how the energy seemed to be getting heavier. As we circled this mausoleum, no orbs appeared until this one. I had just taken two photos of a nearby headstone (no orbs) then turned about 30-40 degrees to some more, three within the same minute. This was the first and contains many orbs. The orbs didn't show up clearly until the image was brightened. |
