Fairfax, MN:  Fort Ridgely

Type State Park: The remains of a fort that survived an Indian attack, but not time.
Brief Fort Ridgely was founded in 1853 to help keep the peace between the Dakota Indians and settlers moving into what was their territory as well as serve as a training area for Civil War volunteers.  In August 1862 the Dakota, hungry and mistreated, the Native Americans attacked the fort.  Civil War soldiers as well as civilians held the fort until assistance arrived.  For more information please visit the links below:
